Retro Rewind: The '80s Through a Modern Lens
Join us for a multidisciplinary Humanities Symposium on the 1980s, presented by Bringing Humanities to life at Bismarck State College. This engaging event will explore how we remember and interpret one of the most iconic decades in recent history from the perspective of 2025.
Through a humanities-based lens, the symposium will dive into topics like:
- How pop culture and trends laud and celebrate the era, particularly when it comes to popular culture itself.
- What the 1980s imagined about today: What did they get right? What did they get absurdly wrong?
- The view from 40 years into the future: How might 2065 look back at our time?
- Local, national, and international topics and trends rooted in the 1980s.
Whether you're a scholar, student, educator or just a fan of retro and big questions, this symposium invites you to reflect on the past, examine the present and imagine the future.
