Paulson earns designation
The Nursing Program at is pleased to announce that Annie Paulson, Associate Professor of Nursing/program director, has earned the designation Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) after meeting strict eligibility criteria and successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the National League for Nursing.
Advocacy creates change
Advocacy by the BSC LGBTQ+ Club under the leadership of Meghan McNeil, led BSC to incorporate neutral gender restrooms on campus.
BSC student earns Bakken U scholarship
BSC student Chad Schoch was one of two N.D. University System (NDUS) students awardeda $5,000 Bakken U scholarship last fall.
The scholarship helped Schoch pay for two degrees from BSC – one in Petroleum Production Technology and another in Process Plant Technology.
Supported by the N.D. Petroleum Council, the NDUS Foundation and the colleges within the system, Bakken U scholarships are available to recently displaced oil workers, current oil workers, or spouses of oil workers who wish to expand their knowledge and job marketability in North Dakota. It is in its second year.
Schoch is a native of the New England, N.D., area and employed full time with Whiting, Inc.
Mystician adviser recognized by College Media Association
Karen Bauer, assistant professor of journalism, was recognized as the recipient of the Distinguished Magazine Adviser Award at a 2-year College or University by the College Media Association (CMA). Bauer is the adviser of the BSC student magazine, The Mystician.
BSC theater makes program history at regional competition
Theatre Arts had a historical showing at the Region V competition of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF).
Alexis Larson (Carrington), Alicia Billock (Mott), Margaret Brink (Bismarck) and Meghan McNeil (Bismarck), along with shared scene partners Robert Day (Mandan) and Tim Bjugstad (Mandan) competed in the Irene Ryan National Audition contest. Larson advanced to the semi-final round, a first in over a decade for BSC theatre.
Frank Vondra (Park River) was the first BSC student to be awarded Best Sound Design in the region at the Tech/Design Expo. He also received Certificates of Merit for his sound designs in BSC’s productions of “Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” and “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.”
Carly Willoughby (Bismarck) received a Certificate of Merit for stage management of “Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).” She also competed in the National Stage Management Fellowship where she was named Regional Runner-Up.
BSC’s four-member Ramrod team was one of four teams that made it to the final round in the Stage Crew Showdown competition. Team members were Shayna Crimmins (McClusky), Hannah Hertz (Carson), Willoughby and Day.
Tanner Hostetter (Huff) was cast in a staged reading of a newly written ten-minute play.
BSC creative team brings home gold and silver in national competitions
BSC landed in the winner’s circle in four categories of the 32nd Annual Educational Advertising Awards, a national contest sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report. BSC earned Silver Awards in the External Publication category for
BSC Magazine and in the Annual Report category for
BSC 2016 Community Report. They also earned Silver Awards in the TV Single category for the
BSC Doors television campaign and in the Website category for the
BSC website , both collaboration projects with Odney Advertising. The entries were submitted by the BSC College Relations team.
BSC students named to the 2017 All-North Dakota Academic Team
Twelve North Dakota community college students were named to the 2017 All-North Dakota Academic Team, which recognizes the academic achievements of community college students. The BSC students were Robyn Duttenhefner, Menoken, and Ashton Wiederholt, Mobridge S.D.
BSC's Huber takes reins of national military council
Lane Huber, BSC’s Chief Distance Learning and Military Affairs Officer, became president of the National Council of College and Military Educators (CCME). CCME promotes the professional development of those serving in the military by connecting the educational programs, strategies and innovation of its members and the Department of Defense(DoD) educational support network.
His responsibilities are national in scope, working with policy makers in the DoD, military education officers, and his counterparts at colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
BSC hosts tech camp for middle and high school students
BSC held a one-day Tech Camp in June for middle and high school students in grades 6 to 10.
Held at the BSC Technical Center, the camp offered students an opportunity to work on technical projects and explore careers in the technology industry. Participants will work hands-on with cybersecurity, Web development, computer programming, computer hardware, geospatial technology and databases.
BSC Carpentry open house showcases student-build home
BSC Carpentry students showcased their home-building skills by inviting the public to tour their 2016-17 BSC Carpentry house and meet the builders in May. Each year, students in the
BSC Carpentry program learn all aspects of residential carpentry by building a single-family home.
The 2016-17 house was designed through a collaboration of the 2015-16 Carpentry class and Plain View Design Co. of Bismarck
The house was sold and proceeds from the sale will go toward future projects.
Spanish and nursing students collaborate
BSC’s nursing students and Spanish students worked together to increase cultural competency of nursing students by running simulations in a healthcare setting.The students ran acute care scenarios in Spanish, with the help of a student-translator.
