Read&Write Software

What is Read&Write?
Read&Write is a literacy support tool that offers help with everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments and proofing written work. 

Includes features such as:
  • Hear documents and web pages read aloud to improve reading comprehension.
  • Understand unfamiliar words with text and picture dictionaries.
  • Develop writing skills with the word prediction.
  • Turn text into audio files (MP3) so students can listen while on the go.
  • Research and studying tools that assist with finding, collecting, proofing, and citing sources.
  • Highlight information, collect your notes which include the original source.
Who can install Read&Write?
BSC has purchased an institutional license. This license allows every BSC student, faculty, and staff member to download the software on their personal computers at no charge. Follow the instructions below to install and log into Read&Write. 

Install Read&Write:
  1. In your web browser visit: text.help/gethome or click on Download Read&Write
  2. Download the trial version. Scroll down to the “Try Read&Write” button, click on it and a drop-down menu will appear.
  3. Select the platform you would like to install. (For these instructions we selected the “Windows US EN” platform). Once you select your platform the download will begin.
  4. When the download is finished, click on the “read&write.exe” executable and it will start the install.
  5. When the install is finished, you will see the Read&Write icon on your desktop:

Log into Read&Write:
  1. Click on the Read&Write icon on your desktop. A toolbar will load on the top of the screen:

  2. Click the purple "rw" icon on the toolbar. A webpage will then load with sign-in options. Choose "Sign in with Microsoft"

  3. You will be directed to the Microsoft Sign in screen. Log in using the same credentials used for your BSC student email account (typically firstname.lastname followed by @ndus.edu). 
    Example: jane.doe@ndus.edu. Click Next.

  4. Next you will be directed to the NDUS Portal Log In site. Your User ID will already be populated from the previous screen. Enter your NDUS account password (same one used for Campus Connection and your student email account). Click "Log In".

  5. In the final step, Duo will prompt you to authenticate using "Call Me" or "Send Me a Push".

  6. Once logged in you will see the full Read&Write toolbar at the top of your screen. You are now ready to use Read&Write.

    Note: With Read&Write running, when you open a browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) the first time after installing the program, the browser should prompt to install a plugin or extension for Read&Write. Choose Yes to allow the install if you intend to use Read&Write with that browser.
