Admission Criteria

Please note, as a limited enrollment program candidates will receive notification of acceptance as not all candidates are selected for acceptance. 

FALL START

All Programs
A completed program application packet (see admission criteria checklist) must be returned to the EMS Director and BSC admissions application must be completed prior to acceptance into the program. Interviews will be scheduled after a completed program application is received. Program specific application information can be found in the corresponding applications below. 

SPRING START
EMT 
A completed program application packet (see admission criteria checklist) must be returned to the EMS Director and BSC admission application must be completed prior to acceptance into the program. Interviews will be scheduled after a completed program application is received. Program specific application information can be found in the corresponding applications below. 

 

EMT Admission Criteria

Apply to BSC
To be eligible to apply for the EMT program you must apply to Bismarck State College.

    
  1. Apply as "Pre-Paramedic Technology" or as "non-degree seeking."
  2. Check Campus Connection to ensure all of your "To Do List" items have been completed. Student cannot be admitted to the EMT course if they are not admitted to BSC due to an incomplete Admission file.

Complete the Interview Process with EMS Program Director
An interview will be scheduled once the program application is received and reviewed.

Following a successful application and interview process, students will be offered placement into the program as space allows. Students accepting this offer will need to pay a $100 tuition deposit.
Upon Acceptance into both BSC and EMT
Students will attend program orientation and registration. There is no registration for EMS courses prior to this day. We will schedule this orientation and registration day after acceptance to the course.

Additional Requirements

Following acceptance, students will need to complete the Castlebranch Compliance Tracker ($153 student expense) to ensure the following requirements are met:
a. AHA BLS (Healthcare Provider) CPR
b. Background/Exclusions Check
i. No felony convictions. Misdemeanors will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
c. Vaccinations:
i. MMR- 2 vaccinations or titer (blood test).
ii. Varicella- 2 vaccinations or positive titer (blood test). (We cannot accept a statement or doctor note stating that you have had chickenpox or shingles.)
iii. Tuberculosis (TB)- 2 step TB skin test or QuantiFERON or T-SPOT.TB or negative chest x-ray.
iv. Tetanus (Td/Tdap)- Current up to date (within 10 years).
v. Hepatitis B series- 3 doses of vaccine or titer (blood draw); recommended, not required.
vi. Current year influenza vaccination- due by November 1 for Fall semesters.
d. 12 Panel Drug Screen
i. Forms are available only from the EMS/Paramedic Program Director.
Application deadline for FALL is July 20.
Application deadline for SPRING is December 1.

Paramedic Admission Criteria

  1. Paramedic Program Admission Application
  2. Copy of valid driver’s license or state-issued identification
  3. Copy of current BLS CPR certification
  4. Copy of current NREMT or State EMS certification or license
