Program Description

The Custom Applicator program prepares students in custom application of crop protection products. Greater technical expertise is required to ensure proper application of fertilizers and pesticides due to developments in precision equipment, advanced crop technologies, and increased environmental awareness. Introducing the concepts necessary for proper operation of applicator equipment, the Certificate of Completion will provide students with the necessary skills for success in this career field.

The Custom Applicator Certificate of Completion provides online instruction in precision agriculture, agronomy, fertility, and agriculture math concepts. It also includes instruction required for industry certifications. This program culminates in an on-campus industry training component where students receive hands-on training on applicator equipment operation and maintenance. 

Flexibility of online instruction, combined with intensive industry training, allows students to gain the skills needed for this high demand career.

Preparation and Requirements

Career Opportunities

The global economy offers many opportunities to provide food, animal feed and energy, which makes it an exciting time to be involved in agriculture. Custom Applicators are hired by companies who have the heavy equipment they will need to learn to operate. State agencies (Department of Agriculture, Game & Fish, Department of Transportation, NRCS, Highway Department) also hire for these positions.
