Program Description

Students graduating from the Agribusiness program will have career opportunities in the fields of agronomy, livestock production, precision agriculture, insurance, ag lending, machinery, ag supply, and ag service. Students may specialize within these fields in sales, operation, and management.

The Agribusiness program will offer classroom instruction and hands-on laboratories in agriculture economics and business combined with electives in agriculture areas such as livestock production, crop production, and precision agriculture. This, coupled with a supervised internship, will prepare students for gainful employment.

Preparation

Students entering the Agribusiness program should develop skills in sales, marketing, and customer service. Good communication skills, resourcefulness, adaptability, innovative thought, and problem-solving skills will be used throughout the program.

Career Opportunities

An Agribusiness Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree will qualify students for many varied positions in the agriculture industry. These include sales, operation, and management positions in the fields of agronomy, livestock production, precision agriculture, insurance, ag lending, machinery, ag supply, and ag service. Example jobs may include crop insurance agent, agronomy operation specialist, feed plant operator, precision agriculture specialist, crop insurance agent, agriculture lending associate, equipment salesperson, and office assistant.

Additional Information

Students will have an opportunity to join the Ag Club, which is the most active club on the BSC campus. Members host tailgating prior to Mystics events, participate in monthly social activities, partake in volunteer opportunities, attend field trips to various agribusinesses, and promote agriculture on the BSC campus. 

Scholarships are readily available to students enrolled in agriculture degree programs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, Agribusiness students will be able to:

  • Organize, interpret and analyze data using mathematical and statistical principles as well as calculate solutions to production related scenarios. Students will then relate these and other agricultural finance concepts to business management and marketing.
  • Apply knowledge & comprehension of plant/soil science and agribusiness knowledge to evaluate various novel production options and develop a new product, service, or management practice.
  • Communicate effectively regarding agriculture issues. Students will demonstrate workplace readiness through an ability to communicate effectively through oral communication, written communication and information literacy.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they apply to a variety of agriculture systems.
