Bull riding events aren’t unique to North Dakota, but hosting a bull riding showdown right on campus is a first for Bismarck State College. Bulls and bravery will go head-to-head on Saturday, Aug. 24, when the BSC Rodeo Team hosts the college’s first-ever Mystics Stampede.

An action-packed fundraiser for the collegiate rodeo team, the Mystics Stampede will transform the parking lot behind the BSC National Energy Center of Excellence into a rodeo arena of mutton busting and bull riding madness, followed by live music from 32 Below.

“We are incredibly excited to host the Mystics Stampede,” says BSC Rodeo head coach Jon Peek. “This event not only brings the excitement of bull riding and rodeo to our campus and the community, but it also supports our rodeo team as we prepare for our inaugural competitive season.”

Doors will open at 3 p.m., and at 4 p.m. the action begins with mutton busting, where young cowboys and cowgirls will showcase their grit and guts by attempting to stay on the back of their sheep for eight seconds. This event is open to the first 100 registered riders ages four and older who do not exceed 70 pounds. At 5 p.m., Bailey Pro Rodeo stock contractors will crank up adrenaline levels for the epic showdown of riders vs. beasts – a Badlands Professional Bullriders sanctioned bull riding event. The evening wraps up with a concert in the arena featuring country rock band 32 Below from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Local food trucks will feature a variety of good eats and beverages, and a beer garden will be available for those over 21 years of age.

Open to the public, general admission for the Mystics Stampede is $25. BSC students with student ID and children six and under are free. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the BSC Rodeo team to cover the costs of travel, equipment and other essential needs as they prepare for their inaugural competitive season.

Tickets sales and mutton busting registration are live now at bismarckstate.edu/MysticsStampede. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities and VIP access for the Mystics Stampede should contact jon.peek@bismarckstate.edu.
