Bismarck State College, in partnership with TrainND Southwest, announces the launch of the Wildland Firefighter Type 2 training program. This industry-led program prepares students for a career as a Firefighter Type 2.

The Wildland Firefighter training is a 52-hour program, consisting of 36 hours of in-person training, eight hours of online training, and an eight-hour field day. Students should be comfortable with manual labor and working outdoors. Physical fitness is essential for this role, as duties may include strenuous activities in emergencies and adverse environmental conditions.

An in-person training option begins Feb. 27, and ends April 4, with classes being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. on the BSC campus. Registration for this option closes on Feb. 21. A boot camp training option starts on May 20 and runs through May 25. Classes meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the BSC campus. Registration closes for the boot camp on May 15. Both training options have limited spots available, with enrollment on a first-come, first-served basis.

Open to individuals aged 18 and older, the program requires English proficiency, access to a computer or tablet, and basic math skills. Tuition for the training program is $300 and covers materials and equipment. Additional expenses are the student's responsibility.
