Commencement is all about celebrating hard work and dedication and every year Bismarck State College is proud to honor student achievement with graduates and their families. So, it was with very heavy hearts that BSC made the difficult decision to cancel our traditional 2020 BSC Commencement ceremony at the Bismarck Event Center because of the coronavirus pandemic. While an in-person commencement event can’t happen, BSC will officially recognize and celebrate students and their achievements in a new way.

At 2 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020, the BSC 2020 [VIRTUAL] COMMENCEMENT will be livestreamed at bismarckstate.edu and a Facebook Watch Party will be held at the same time on the BSC Facebook page allowing students, family, and friends to watch together and share congratulatory messages for BSC graduates.

On Saturday, May 16, 2020, the BSC 2020 [VIRTUAL] COMMENCEMENT will be televised on the KFYR-TV, KUMV-TV, KMOT-TV and KQCD-TV stations at 12 p.m. (cst).

BSC looks forward to the celebration of graduates, the conferral of 970+ degrees and welcoming Miss America 2018 Cara Mund as the 2020 BSC commencement speaker. All students who have completed the coursework to earn degrees from BSC in Fall 2019, Spring 2020 or Summer 2020 will be recognized during the virtual ceremony.

"Although it’s not the same as physically being together, today’s technology allows us to still celebrate the success of our graduates. We’re so proud of them," says BSC President Larry Skogen.

This celebration marks the final commencement for Skogen who is retiring on June 30 after 13 years at BSC.

"It has been an incredible privilege to serve as president of BSC. As I ride into the sunset being chased by a virus, I know that the college is in the great hands of all the employees and the new president, Dr. Doug Jensen. I wish for them nothing but the best," he says.
