BSC to host Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration
Published: Apr 22 2025
Bismarck State College (BSC) will host a Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) event on Thursday, April 24, at 12 p.m. (CDT).
This Holocaust Remembrance Day falls on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps that marked the end of the Holocaust. Between 1941 and 1945, an estimated 6 million Jews were murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe. It is considered to be the single largest genocide in history. Yom HaShoah, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day, is a day of remembrance for the lives lost and those affected. This year, it will run from sundown on Wednesday, April 23, to sundown on Thursday, April 24.
The event at BSC will feature a memorial candle lighting and remarks from Brent Sanford, BSC Interim President; Zachary Greenberg, Commissioner of North Dakota Department of Labor and Human Rights; Steve Hunegs, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas; and Joy Wezelman, President of the Bismarck Hebrew Congregation. Music will be provided by Abby Karr and David Sorenson.
The Transfer of Memory Photography Exhibit, which illustrates Holocaust survivors living in Minnesota in their homes in full color, will also be on display at the BSC Library through May 20. Each photograph in the collection tells a story of survival during difficult circumstances.
This event is open to the public and will be held at the BSC Advanced Technology Center, Live Event Venue, 1220 Schafer St., Bismarck, N.D.
