Bismarck State College will lower its COVID-19 risk level from Level 4 High Risk to Level 3 Moderate Risk effective Monday, Jan. 11. A number of factors played into this decision including BSC’s rolling positivity rate which has remained near zero percent for several weeks.
The risk level change affects the following areas:
  • Student Life and Activities: Visitation between rooms for individuals living in the same hall will now be allowed. Outside guests still are not allowed in the residence halls.
  • Dining: Seating capacity in the Mystic Marketplace will increase from 50 to 65%
  • Facility Rental: Facility capacity in other areas increases from 25 to 50%.

This change does not affect any of the campus’s primary protective measures. BSC will continue to require masks and social distancing and will encourage hand washing and regular testing. BSC will continue to hold BSC Monday Testing Events and will be introducing BinaxNOW testing (rapid 15-minute results) for its students next week.

BSC President Doug Jensen cited student and employee commitment to mitigation as well as increased testing as factors in the change in risk levels. “Our students and employees have been fully committed to the COVID-related safety measures in place. Their dedication allowed for a successful Fall semester. Moving forward we are asking them all to remain diligent and dedicated to the individual safety practices that will lead to a successful, engaged and healthy spring term.”

BSC will continue to monitor campus, county and state COVID-19 information and will adjust its risk levels as needed to ensure a safe and healthy campus.
