Bismarck State College (BSC) Theatre is proud to announce that it has been named the 2025 Arts in Education award recipient of the North Dakota Governor’s Awards for the Arts. The theatre program will be recognized alongside the winners in six other award categories on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m., at the ND Heritage Center in Bismarck.

According to BSC Theatre faculty members Dean Bellin and Daniel Welstad, the program is deeply honored and humbled to be receiving this award. “This would not have been possible without the incredible support of Bismarck State College, the North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA), and the community,” says Bellin. “We proudly share this award with all previous BSC Theatre faculty, staff, and alumni.”

BSC Theatre began its legacy 86 years ago, in the college’s inaugural year. The program flourished thanks to many talented leaders, including Edith Ramstad, Jane Gray Stewart and Dan Rogers. Over the years, BSC Theatre has been recognized by the Kennedy Center – American College Theatre Festival Region V numerous times and has performed at the American College Theatre Festival.

The ND Governor’s Awards for the Arts dates back to 1977 and is awarded biennially. The program, presented by the Office of the Governor and NDCA, is designed to recognize organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in the state.

The February recognition event at the ND Heritage Center will begin with a social in the Northern Lights Atrium at 5 p.m., which includes live jazz music, light appetizers, and a cash bar. The awards ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Russell Reid Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required and closes on Thursday, Jan. 30.
