Bismarck State College (BSC) will confer 1,057 degrees to 887 graduates during its 83rd BSC Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 12 at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Bismarck Event Center. Graduates include those who completed their course of instruction during the year, as well as those who expect to complete requirements during the summer.

Of this year’s BSC graduates, six are high school students who have earned their degree from BSC by taking dual credit and/or early entry classes and are being awarded their college diploma prior to graduating from high school.

This year’s commencement speaker is Brent Sanford, who served as the 38th lieutenant governor of North Dakota from 2016 to 2023. A Watford City native and certified public accountant, Sanford served as mayor of his hometown and owned and operated a third-generation auto dealership there prior to running for statewide office with Governor Doug Burgum. His career as an elected official began in 2006 and he continued to serve both his community and the state of North Dakota until January 2, 2023, when he made the decision to return to the private sector and spend more time with his family.

This year’s ceremony will also include remarks from a current graduate and a recent BSC alumna, as well as a performance by the BSC Men’s Ensemble.

The ceremony will stream live at bismarckstate.edu/livestream. A recording of the ceremony will be available online at bismarckstate.edu/commencement after May 15 and a recorded broadcast of the ceremony will air on Dakota Media Access, Cable Channel 12 or Channel 612 HD.
