BSC and VCSU announce collaborative elementary education bachelor’s degree

Bismarck State College and Valley City State University have created a collaborative education program resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State University earned on the BSC campus. 
 
“The beauty of the North Dakota University System is that we can work with other colleges and universities to help students meet their academic goals in a manner that is flexible and affordable for them,” BSC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dan Leingang said.
 
This collaboration is designed for students to earn an Associate in Science degree with an emphasis in elementary education from BSC and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from VCSU. Students will be able to complete the Bachelor of Science degree in two years without having to leave the BSC campus. The VCSU elementary education coursework will be delivered to the BSC campus using various distance delivery technologies but mostly online.
 
"The VCSU Teacher Education program is pleased and excited to partner with BSC to offer our elementary education major to students from BSC. Students will also have the opportunity to earn endorsements in Special Education, Kindergarten, Reading, English Language Learners, STEM, Middle School or Early Childhood Education,” said Dr. Gary Thompson VCSU dean of education and graduate studies.
 
Both campuses will maintain compliance with state and national accreditation guidelines and will benefit the educational needs of the region by providing high quality elementary education graduates. This partnership provides a high quality collaborative program to students in a convenient, timely, flexible and cost-effective manner.
