BSC Wind Ensemble performs Nov. 6

Bismarck State College presents its Wind Ensemble in concert on Monday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium, Schafer Hall on the BSC campus. The concert is offered at no charge, and the public is welcome.
Conducted by John Darling, the ensemble performs a series of works including “Clouds that Sail in Heaven” by Todd Stalter, “Freedom Quest” by Tracy Behrman, “Vesuvius” by Frank Ticheli and a piece written by Mark Lortz for the 2014 All County Band in Hartford County, Md., “Moving at the Speed of Sound.”
Four of Darling’s Advance Conducting students from the BSC-Dickinson State University collaborative music program -- Toby Kuhn, St. John, N.D.; Adler Scheer, Bismarck, N.D.; and Andrew Wickenheiser and Jacob Lawler, Mandan -- will take the stage conducting four selections.
Kuhn will direct “Dance of the Fir Darrig” by Fergal Carroll. He received his associate degree from BSC in 2015 and is currently working on his bachelor’s in composite music education through DSU.
A DSU junior studying music at BSC, Scheer directs “Lisbon” by Percy Grainger.
Wickenheiser is a senior in the BSC-DSU collaborative music program majoring in vocal performance with emphasis in composition and bass guitar performance. His compositions and arrangements have been featured by the BSC choirs, and his composition “A Moment of Happiness” was featured at the 2016 North Dakota Music Teachers Association conference. Wickenheiser will lead the BSC Wind Ensemble in “Nessun Dorma” by Giacomo Puccini.
Lawler will direct “Molesworth Melody” by Derek Bourgeois. Lawler received his associate degree from BSC and is currently a DSU junior majoring in music education through the collaborative music program on the BSC campus.
