The Bismarck State College Art program has clay available to pick up in the BSC art department, on the second floor of LEA Hall, for the annual community raku firing April 29–May 1 on the BSC campus.

Interested persons can pick up clay now to make a pot or small sculpture and return the object no later than April 24 for bisque firing. The ceramics studio is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Held during ArtsQuest, community raku is a signature event of BSC’s month-long celebration of the arts and is offered at no charge. Participants are invited to come during the firing days to glaze their pots and watch them transform. Others are welcome to watch and learn about the raku process, which involves heavy reduction and quick cooling to achieve dramatic surface effects.

Raku firing hours April 29–May are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday west of the library.  Call 701-224-5471 with questions about raku. For more information about ArtsQuest, visit bismarckstate.edu/artsquest or facebook.com/artsquest.
