Bismarck State College (BSC) President Larry C. Skogen announced today (July 3, 2019) that he will retire June 30, 2020. Skogen was hired in 2007, and he spent two of his 12 years serving as Interim Chancellor for the North Dakota University System.

Skogen is the sixth president in the college’s 80-year history. Under his leadership the college has formed educational agreements with all branches of the U.S. military, strengthened industry partnerships to build programs, remodeled and built new campus buildings, and led the charge in adopting new technologies and methods within the system. Most recently, BSC was approved to become a polytechnic offering four-year technical degrees.

“Dr. Larry Skogen is one of the most esteemed servant leaders in the North Dakota University System. He is an innovative president in the university system, having established nationally recognized programs in network security and ushered in a new polytechnic model at Bismarck State College. He will be sorely missed,” says Chancellor Mark Hagerott.

“I’m incredibly proud to have been at BSC during a transformative period for our campus and higher ed. The time is right for a new leader to step in and take BSC into a new era as a polytechnic,“ Skogen says. “BSC’s next president is a lucky person. She or he will lead a college, and a group of employees, well-positioned to meet the growing educational and workforce needs of North Dakota.”
