The Bismarck State College Music department presents its inaugural Patriotic Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sidney J. Lee Auditorium inside Schafer Hall.

BSC choral and instrumental groups will perform patriotic selections in observation of Veterans Day and to honor those who have served the country. BSC is proud to have this musical tribute led by music department chair and professor of music Dr. John Darling, a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1975-1998. Darling achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3).

BSC’s Wind Ensemble, directed by Darling, and its Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Jeffery Stone, come together on stage to open the concert with “The Star Spangled Banner,” arranged by Richard Bowles. Additional groups performing include the Men’s and Women’s Ensembles directed by Dawn Hagerott and Clyde Bauman respectively, the Concert Choir directed by Stone and the String Ensemble under the direction of Laura Prokopyk. Nancy Darling and Colleen Hathaway accompany the musical groups. Audiences members will enjoy both familiar patriotic selections as well as some that are new to them.

Special guest Mike McMcCormack, retired BSC professor of history, returns to his alma matter and workplace of 50 years to narrate during the Wind Ensemble’s rendition of “Duty, Honor, Country,” arranged by Harrold Walter.

The opening group will come back together for a memorable concert finale of “America the Beautiful,” featuring the presentation of the service flags by the AMVET Post #9 Color Guard.

The concert is open to the community and is offered at no charge.
