BSC Visiting Writers Series features Minnesota author

Author Nicole Helget will be at Bismarck State College on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. for a reading, question-and-answer session and book-signing event as part of BSC’s Visiting Writers Series. The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Basin Electric Auditorium inside the National Energy Center of Excellence on campus.
            
Helget is the author of numerous works of fiction and non-fiction, some intended for adults and some intended for children and young adults. Her latest book, “The End of the Wild,” won the 2018 Minnesota Book Award for middle grade literature. Other titles include “Wonder at the Edge of the World,” “The Turtle Catcher,” “Stillwater,” and her memoir “The Summer of Ordinary Ways.” Helget has also written a number of nature books for children.
 
Helget grew up in southern Minnesota and currently lives in St. Peter, Minn., with her family. She hold a master’s degree in fine arts in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public policy with a concentration in rural arts, education and environmental issues. In addition to writing, she works as a teacher, editor, and manuscript and story consultant.
  
The Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by the BSC English discipline of the Language, Literature & Communication department with additional financial support from the BSC Foundation.
 
Helget’s time at BSC will also include visits to various classes on campus.
