BSC faculty and staff receive promotions and excellence awards

Bismarck State College recently recognized professional achievements of faculty and staff at the 11th annual BSC Celebration.
BSC President Larry C. Skogen conferred the rank of full professor to two faculty members – Dr. Theresa Felderman, professor of psychology; and Dr. Vickie Volk, professor of computers and office technology.
To be considered for full professor, candidates must have taught at BSC for at least 12 years, presented an application portfolio to the Dean of Academic Affairs and his ranking committee, be recommended by the Faculty Senate and approved by the college president.
Three BSC faculty members were granted tenure by the State Board of Higher Education in April. All earned the rank of associate professor. Tenure candidates with new titles include Mike Myers, associate professor, NECE; Michael Tomanek, associate professor of English; and Jeff Wuitschick, associate professor of automotive technology.
The following employees were recognized for completing degrees in the last year: Bradley Anderson, bachelor’s degree in career and technical education; Tabitha Beede, master’s degree in nursing; Dr. Lynette Borjeson Painter, doctorate of philosophy in education, E-Learning; Kendal Busch, bachelor’s degree in career and technical education; Janet Dixon, master’s degree in forensic psychology; Andrea Fagerstrom, master’s degree in integrated arts and education; Levi Helmuth, master’s degree in agribusiness and applied economics; Dr. Dan Leingang, doctorate of philosophy in educational leadership; Caitlin Magilke, associate in applied science degree in human services and certificate for eligibility worker; and Erin Thomas, bachelor’s degree in career and technical education.
Five BSC employees were honored with the Award of Excellence which recognizes significant or meritorious performance in professional roles.
Faculty recipients were Dr. Kim Crowley, associate professor of English, and Matt Frohlich, associate professor of computers and office technology.
Chosen for a Staff Award of Excellence were Chris Beckler Yellowbird, veteran services coordinator, and Christina Burns, programs coordinator for college advancement.
The Part-time/Adjunct Faculty Award of Excellence went to Marv Mutzenberger, religion lecturer.
Recipients came from 50 nominations by students and BSC employees. Awardees were chosen by the BSC Foundation Programs Committee and representatives from faculty, staff and students. Full-time employees received a $1,000 cash gift from the Foundation and part-time employees received a $250 cash gift.
Joe Ellefson, BSC professor of criminal justice, was also honored as this year's Higher Education Outstanding Teacher of the Year with a surprise presentation by Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce during the annual BSC Celebration event.
