Similar to scholarships, waivers are used to alleviate college expenses without the obligation of repayment. A waiver represents a specific monetary value applied to tuition, fees, or residence hall costs, contingent on the type of waiver granted to the student. Waivers are non-refundable and will only offset the actual charge specified for the waiver. Waivers cannot be carried forward to future semesters and students must meet the eligibility criteria based on the waiver qualifications.

Keep in mind that waivers are considered part of your financial aid package, which means they may replace some or all of your financial aid eligibility.

BSC full-time and adjunct employees are offered a tuition waiver for three classes per calendar year. If courses are taken at BSC, the full cost of tuition will be waived along with a portion of the corresponding mandatory student fees. If courses are taken at another NDUS institution, 50% of tuition will be waived. The employee would be responsible for the remaining 50% along with all associated student fees. Eligibility is determined by the BSC HR Department.

Spouses and dependents of BSC employees are eligible for a 50% reduction in tuition. Program fees, class/course fees, mandatory student fees or any other student fees are not covered under this waiver. The student receiving this waiver must be enrolled and taking courses at BSC. The eligibility of this waiver is determined by the BSC HR Department.
 
North Dakota Law Enforcement Officer Waiver Guidelines/Application
Available to full-time North Dakota law enforcement officers who have at least two years of service and are maintaining satisfactory job performance. Must complete the application linked below, supplied by the ND Attorney General’s office. The ND law enforcement officer must receive supervisor approval at least one month in advance of the start of the semester. This waiver provides a 25% reduction in tuition/fees and is available for a maximum of five years after the initial award.

Senior Citizen Waiver Guidelines/Application
Senior citizens, age 65 or older, may receive a tuition waiver toward one on-campus, for-audit course each semester. Students who meet eligibility requirements will receive a 100% reduction in tuition. Program fees, class/course fees, mandatory student fees or any other student fees are not covered under this waiver. Eligibility is determined by the BSC Student Finance Office.


Survivors of Firefighters, EMS Personnel or Peace Officers Tuition Waiver
Survivors of Firefighters, EMS Personnel or Peace Officers-Summer Waiver Request 
Students who are eligible for this waiver will receive a 100% reduction in all tuition/fees. This waiver does not cover room and board or book costs. This waiver is available for 10 semesters within all 11 NDUS institutions. This waiver is not available for semesters completed prior to receipt of the application. This waiver will automatically be applied to all continuously enrolled semesters, excluding summer, while eligibility is maintained. If the receiving student does not wish to utilize the waiver during a specific semester, the student must notify the BSC Student Finance office. The eligibility of the waiver is determined by the BSC Student Finance Office.
 
Veteran's Dependent Tuition Waiver 
Students who are eligible for this waiver will receive a 100% reduction in all tuition/fees. This waiver does not cover room and board or book costs. This waiver is not available for semesters completed prior to receipt of the application. This waiver will automatically be applied to all continuously enrolled semesters while eligibility is maintained. The eligibility of the waiver is determined by the BSC Student Finance Office.
