Lab Equipment

Students in Power Generation Technology have access to one-of-a-kind training equipment housed in the National Energy Center of Excellence.  Featured equipment includes a steam generator capable of generating 3500 watts.  This boiler operates under 120 pounds of pressure and is controlled by an Ovation DCS.

The boiler was built by Darby Tech specifically for the use by students at the National Energy Center of Excellence.

This one of its kind boiler allows students to learn about pressure boilers, steam turbines, and thermodynamics while performing start up and shut down procedures.

These procedures replicate the tasks students would perform in a real-world setting, but are done in a safe, controlled environment under the supervision of experienced faculty.

Online and on campus students use a virtual, interactive, 3D animation of a power production facility.  This project allows students to delve deep into the inner workings of a plant, open various pieces of equipment, view cutaways, and watch a process in action.  Students can work with the plant as a whole or focus on a single component.
