Additional Benefits

Application Fee Waiver for Active Duty Military: The $35 Admission fee will be waived for students who provide documentation of current active duty military status. Proper documentation includes a copy of one of the following: Common Access Card (CAC) - copy (front side) of Military ID indicating active duty status; or military orders indicating active duty status. A copy of the documentation may be faxed to the Admissions office at 701-224-5643 or e-mailed to BSC.Admissions@bismarckstate.edu. For more information call BSC Admissions at 701-224-5429.

BSC Veteran Dependent Tuition Waiver: Provides 100% tuition and fees to spouses and dependents of Veterans who have a 100% permanent disability rating from the VA, died from service connected causes/disabilities, was a prisoner of war, or was declared missing in action. Applications are also available at Veteran Dependent Tuition Waiver. Credit for Military Training Programs: Bismarck State College awards credit for certain Military Training Programs as outlined by the American Council on Education (ACE). A maximum of 40 semester hours of non-traditional credit (e.g. AP, CLEP, military training, BSC challenge exam credit, portfolio development, prior learning, and courses covered under high school articulation agreements) may be applied to an associate's degree, diploma or certificate at BSC. DSST (DANTES) and CLEP exams: BSC offers the opportunity for you to earn credit if you have acquired knowledge through experience or prior academic learning that may be equivalent to college level courses. Academic Records/Student Finance Appeal for Military Duty: This procedure allows students the opportunity to appeal a transcript record or tuition and fee charges due to extenuating circumstances. Allowable hardship reasons include military active duty. A copy of orders listing dates of activation must be submitted as documentation and approved by the proper BSC Administration. National Guard Tuition Waiver: In addition to chapter 1606 GI Bill benefits, National Guard members may also qualify for a tuition waiver, according to ND Century Code. BSC will be informed by the ND National Guard Tuition Assistance Program if a student is eligible for this program and the dollar amount the student qualifies for. Students can take a minimum of one class and be eligible for this program. National Guard members need to contact their unit for application deadlines and qualifications. Resident Tuition for Veterans, Active Duty Military, Spouses and Dependents: Veterans and active duty military personnel and dependents, who are residents of other states, can pay the same tuition as North Dakota residents. Transfer of Benefits: Career service members on active duty or in the reserve who are eligible for the Post 911 (Chapter 33) GI Bill may be entitled to transfer all or a portion of the education entitlement to one or more family members. To be eligible, service members must have served in the Armed Forces for at least six years, and agree to serve four additional years, from the date of election to transfer. Priority of Service: Veterans and eligible spouses are granted priority of service for some programs through the Department of Labor's policy for federally-funded programs, including several of BSC's limited enrollment programs. Students are asked to indicate their eligibility for veteran priority by contacting BSC's Veterans Services Offices at 701-224-2575 or via email at bsc.veteransoffice@bismarckstate.edu. Students will be asked to submit a DD214 form for verification.
