Bismarck State College is excited to announce CyberCon 2020 will be a virtual conference to be held October 6-7, 2020, allowing attendees to learn, share and network from the safety and convenience of their homes or workplaces. Registration fees for 2020 have been reduced to $75 for the full conference. Registration is now open at cyberconBSC.com.

This year’s speakers bring deep expertise and national reputations for excellence. The opening keynote speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 6 is John Strand of Black Hills Information Security. Strand has consulted and taught hundreds of organizations about security, regulatory compliance, and penetration testing, and is a contributor to the industry shaping Penetration Testing Execution Standard and 20 Critical Controls frameworks.

On Wed., Oct. 7, keynote speaker Cathy Lanier, Senior Vice President of Security for the National Football League (2016-Present) and former chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (District of Columbia) will present from her experience in high profile roles with diverse constituents.

Ten educational sessions led by a diverse set of local, regional and national experts including the Louisiana State Police, the Michigan Cyber Command Center, and North Dakota’s State and Local Intelligence Center will round out the two-day event.

Launched in 2018 for those working or looking to work in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure, Cybercon 2020 participants will find content ranging from introductory information for those just entering the field to advanced deep dives for more experienced industry professionals.

According to CyberCon 2020 conference chair Art Bakke, this year’s conference will focus on the critically important roles that both cybersecurity and critical infrastructure play in our increasingly digitally dependent world.

“The decision to present a completely virtual conference gives us an opportunity to reach a wider audience through peer networking and dynamic speakers. This slight transition places us in a strong position to deliver actionable and relevant content and an enhanced, new vision,” he said.

CyberCon 2020 is the only event of its kind in the region and is sponsored by global cybersecurity company and BSC educational partner Palo Alto Networks along with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Dakota Carrier Network, and Starion Bank. The first and second conferences, held in 2018 and 2019 respectively, sold out of participant passes.
